When should I get my first bra?

There’s not necessarily an age, time or occasion that determines when you should buy your first bra. While it is common among early teens to delve into wearing bras (as puberty brings on breast changes), each person has individual preferences. So do what feels right for you, and when you are ready, we will be here to help!

What size should my first bra be?

There is no specific size that we recommend, as it depends on your individual shape and style. That’s why it’s always best to start with a Bra Fitting Expert in store to determine how the bra can best suit your needs. If you’d prefer to purchase something online, Triumph has a range of support tools to help including live online consultations, a bra calculator size guide and a style selector.

What happens during a bra fitting appointment?

Our team at Triumph are trained and experienced with finding the perfect style for you. During a fitting, you can expect them to learn more about your personal needs and preferences, measure you for your band and bust size, suggest a range of suitable styles to complement your body type and provide you with tips to keep your bras long-lasting. This is all done within the privacy of a fitting room and measurements are taken over your clothing.

What should I look for in a first bra?

The right bra should provide you with weightless support, total comfort and a beautifully shaped silhouette. You want to avoid fabric pinching or straps and underwire that dig in to your skin. Depending on your size and breast shape, it’s very common to choose a wire-free style such as the Body Make Up Soft Touch Wire-Free Bra or sloggi ZERO Feel Bralette.

How many bras should I own?

While this decision is completely up to you, we recommend a minimum of five bras so that you can rotate them daily and air bras out between wear. This way you can save on washing and not have to fret about having no bras on wash day! Depending on your lifestyle, it’s also useful to own a variety of styles e.g. 1-2 sports bras for sports training and a couple of everyday bras in neutral colours, perfect for everyday wear under your school uniform.

How will I know if I have changed bra size?

As soon as you have the feeling that “I can’t wait to take off my bra!” at the end of the day, or you don’t feel supported anymore. Signs that you aren’t wearing the correct size can be that the wire is digging into your breast tissue or you notice some gaping or over-spillage in the cup size. The bra band should also be a firm but comfortable fit and you want to make sure it isn’t too tight or too big (riding up your back).
Did you know that the tissue and structure of your breasts change throughout your life? So regular bra fittings are a great way to ensure that you have an optimal fit.

Do I need to wear a bra at night?

While you don’t need to wear a bra at night, it is all about your individual comfort. Sometimes a lightweight bra without underwire is the preferred option like the sloggi GO Allround Bras. Read more about it here.
