Period Underwear
Feel free, yet supported in our period undies
Cleaning period underwear is simple. Period undies can be washed in the washing machine with cool or warm water (check the label first). If you have a heavier menstrual flow, it is best to rinse them in cool water after each wear, before putting them in the washing machine. Use a gentle detergent, and avoid bleach or fabric softeners, as they can compromise the fabric’s integrity. Air-dry your period undies to maintain their quality.
If you have a lighter flow, you can wear your period underwear throughout the day (as you would with regular undies!) and change into a new pair when you shower. At night time, you can sleep in your period pants but we would recommend changing into a fresh pair in the morning. That's about every 12 hours or so. If your menstrual flow has been heavier and you notice leakage or wetness, you may need to change into a fresh pair every 6 hours.
Depending on your flow, you can wear period pants all day for ultimate comfort and convenience.
When cared for as per the washing instructions, period underwear can last a year or so. Unlike regular underwear, these are on a less frequent rotation so will not need replacing as quickly (regular undies should be replaced every 3-6 months to promote hygiene!). However if your body shape or size changes, or you notice the elasticity breaking down, you will need to replace them sooner.
Period undies feature multiple layers of waterproof and absorbent fabrics that wick away moisture, to keep you dry and comfortable. The waterproof layer prevents leaks, making them a reliable and reusable alternative to tampons and single-use menstrual pads.
This depends on the brand and type of period underwear, as well as the level of menstrual flow you’re experiencing. While period undies are designed to be absorbent and water-resistant, not all are made to be submerged in water. When wet, some period underwear might become heavy and less effective at preventing leaks, so we would not recommend wearing them in the water.
Yes! You can wear your period undies overnight. They offer excellent night-time protection, for a comfortable and leak-free sleep. Make sure to change them in the morning. For ultimate peace of mind, choose a full coverage pair, like the Maxi Freedom Brief, which is suitable for heavy flow nights, providing extra protection against leaks.
It’s recommended to air-dry your period undies, to preserve their elasticity and absorbency. Avoid using a clothes dryer, as excessive heat can affect the fabric and compromise their effectiveness.
Yes, you can wash period undies with other clothes. If you have a heavier flow, rinse them in cool water after each wear, before putting them in the washing machine. We always recommend using a laundry bag to prevent potential snagging and damage and ensure the longevity of your period underwear.
